iPhone won't connect to WiFi? Fixes that actually work

Your laptop and TV are online but your iPhone refuses to join — or it says connected and nothing loads. This is one of the most common problems we fix, and it's almost always the phone, not your internet.

  1. Check it's really just the iPhone
  2. Forget the network, then rejoin

  4. Restart the iPhone
  5. Reset network settings (last resort)

Check other devices first

Can the laptop or a family member's phone get online? If other devices work, your internet is fine — the rest of these steps are about the iPhone itself.

Forget the network, then rejoin

On the iPhone: Settings → WiFi → tap the (i) next to your network name → Forget This Network. Then tap the network again and enter the password fresh. This clears out a corrupted saved profile — fixes about half of these cases.

The airplane switch trick

Turn Airplane Mode ON, wait 30 seconds, turn it OFF. This forces the phone to drop everything and find networks again. Simple, oddly effective.

2 minutes

Restart the iPhone

Turn it fully off and on. iPhones keep small connection bugs alive for weeks; a restart kills them. If your iPhone hasn't been restarted in a month, do this even if other steps worked.

Reset network settings (only if nothing else worked)

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings. This wipes saved WiFi passwords and Bluetooth pairings — annoying, but it fixes deep-rooted profile problems. You'll just re-enter your WiFi password afterwards.

If every device in the house fails at once, the iPhone is innocent — your internet itself is down. Start with the modem restart guide instead.

Quick answers

Why does my iPhone say 'Unable to Join the Network'?
Usually a corrupted saved profile or a wrong password. Forgetting the network and rejoining fixes it in most cases.
Why does WiFi work on my iPhone but nothing loads?
Same fix path — forget and rejoin the network. If that fails, reset network settings.
Could it still be my internet provider's fault?
Only if other devices fail too. One device failing = the device. All devices failing = the internet.
