Internet is the last thing people think about when moving and the first thing they miss on day one. Whether you booked TELUS, Rogers, or Bell at the new place, here's the checklist that gets your new home online before the pizza arrives — including the three checks almost nobody does.

Book your provider early — install slots fill fast, especially at month-end. Ask for the earliest morning slot (techs run late, never early). Plan where the box WILL go (see step 4) and clear the spot before they arrive. Moving into a TELUS PureFibre home? The fibre line is usually already there — setup is quick.
Be there, and ask the installer to: show you the light pattern of a healthy box, write your WiFi name and password on paper, and run a speed test with you on the spot. A proper install takes 30–60 minutes — if it takes 10, verify they didn't skip anything.
First: speed test beside the box — you should get close to your plan. Second: walk the house — office, bedrooms, basement — and test WiFi in each room. Dead spots found today are free to fix; found in week two they cost your sanity. Third: connect your two most important devices (work laptop, TV) and actually use them.
The white box goes central, high, and out in the open — a main-floor shelf, not the basement mechanical room, not behind the TV, not inside a cabinet. In Calgary's older NW bungalows with long floor plans, placement matters more than the plan you buy.
New-home internet problems are common: old cabling, wrong box position, a hub fighting a bigger floor plan. If a restart doesn't clear it, book a same-day visit — we set up, test every room, and hand you a written cheat sheet before we leave.
